For anyone who's interested (mostly Josh)...

We have Harpoon Hibernian Ale on draft at the bar.

My review..... meh.

Predictable, really, considering Harpoon's tendency to occupy the gross-to-meh spectrum.

If you want a real Irish-style red ale, I'd avocate seeking out the Pennichuck Engine 5. It's delicious.

That's too bad. Harpoon really just keeps letting us down. I don't understand why they still exist. They're too expensive to be a Bud and too shitty to be a Brooklyn, Smuttynose or a Victory.

harpoon is gay.

I concur with both of you. It's a little awkward, though, as some of my friends up here adore the IPA,which I think is awful. Also, I think their tap handles are hideous.

y'know--it just occurred to me--for someone who's blog title refers to a certain interest in food and cooking, there are very few images of chef sheena's culinary triumphs. i for one would like to see the results of your work and possibly some action shots--sheena parboiling, sheena caramelizing, sheena blowtorching--preferably in in checkered pants and a giant poofy hat. where's the homework, man?

your friends are wrong. they are incorrect about the beer and should be told so. also, guinness sucks. take it to the bank. the money bank.

IPA tastes like grapefruit to me. not something i look for in a brew

I've not been in the kitchen much lately, but plan to be heading back in there, cooking things and photo-documenting them, I swear. Part of the problem is that I can't flambee and take pictures at the same time, but I'll work on it.

Toby, you are incorrect about Guinness and I am telling you so.

I like Brooklyn's EIPA and Smutty's IPA... but Harpoon's tastes like fucking Rolling Rock to me.

Stay tuned...Pennichuck's Halligan RyePA was brewed for the first time today. We expect a mid to late March release. No doubt Dave and Co. will put it on tap for us.
Cheers, Phil
p.s. thanks for the plug Sheena

Oh, I do hope so.

The important question is, when will I be able to stop by amd taste it? :-)

Thanks for the good word, Phil. I've been thinking of y'all lately, because I'm seeing sixers of the Mogul Lager and Engine 5 everywhere I go. Congrats!

bah. guinness has nothing on murphy's or beamish. guinness is weak and bland. guinness is for people who are trying to prove something.

Ever wonder why Guinness floats in a black and tan? A stout by any other name would be on the bottom.

I mean, I like Beamish and Murphy's. I agree that Guinness is generally a beer for people who like to think they know something about beer, when in fact they do not.

But for what it is, Guinness is good. I sort of see it as its own category of beer since it doesn't really taste like a stout. It's not especially flavorful but it can be nice on a really cold day.

no, but it does taste like a bad dry irish stout, whereas beamish and murphy's taste like a good dry irish stout.
